What is colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a test that allows your doctor to look at the inside of your rectum and colon. For proper evaluation images will be captured as scopes pass. Colonoscopy is much more accurate than barium enema.

Preparation

2-3 days before Do not eat fruits(eg. grapes, watermelons, kiwi, strawberries, and melons), seaweed, redbeans, dark grains.
The day before the exam ① Eat white rice soup for breakfast and lunch(till 1 O’ clock). Add only salt or soy sauce for condiment.
② Until 8 O’ clock only liquid juice is allowed and milk, soy milk, and yogurt is not allowed. Solid food is not allowed.
③ From 9 O’ clock till 10 O’ clock 1L of colon prep should be taken.
The exam day Take another 1L of colon prep at 5 O’ clock in the morning by the previous method.
② You should not take any food until colonoscopy is done.
③ You are allowed to take antihypertensive medication with small amount of water.
④ If you have diabetes, you should not take medication or insulin injection before the colonoscopy. Consult to your doctor before colonoscopy.

※ HOW TO TAKE COLON PREP
  • ① Mix one pack of powder labeled B to a 500mL bottle than add water to make it 500mL. Then shake it till it is well mixed.
  • ② Drink 250ml of mixed colon prep in 15minutes interval. Drink continuously in each interval.(2times) It will be more comfortable to drink if you mix the powder with cold water.
  • ③ Drink 500ml of water after you’ve taken all of colon prep.

After the colonoscopy

  • You might feel dizzy and nauseous after colonoscopy due to analgesic drugs. Ambulation is recommended to pass out the gas.
  • Small amount of bleeding can occur due to biopsy. When bleeding do not stop contact the hospital staff immediately.
  • Do not take sauna or use bidet for 3 to 4 days. And avoid greasy food or food containing wheat.
